Tag! You're IT! I dig you

With the little heart right on the shovel, this image would be PERFECT for Valentine's Day!

I started off with a base of Baked Brown Sugar and used the same colours that I had out when I created this card because I already had everything out on the table and all I had to do was switch stamp sets! :)

For Valentine's Day, you could do it up in Blushing Bride and Primrose Petals or maybe Pink Pirouette and Rose Red. You could stick with a blue colour theme for the boys in your child's class too if you like. Whatever your little heart desires!

To get all the different colours on the stamp, I used markers and applied them directly to the rubber image and then stamped onto a piece of Whisper White Cardstock.

After running the image through the Big Shot, I added some ribbon for a final touch.

Tag! You're It! Get Well Soon...

If there's one thing that would get a lot of use at Ronald McDonald House, it would be a get well soon card. Families are at Ronald McDonald House because they have sick children. And for these families, their greatest wish is for their child to be well.

When I visited Ronald McDonald House last week, I learned that two of the families that stay there have been there for OVER A YEAR. Can you imagine? A YEAR? A year of your life spent worrying about your child? A year of your life living away from home? A year of your life where you just don't know what tomorrow will hold?

As I've mentioned, our family was blessed with two cardiac kids. Yes, I know it sounds weird to say we were "blessed" with two sick children, but if you don't look at is as a blessing, you spend your time being unhappy/sad/depressed. We have been blessed with getting to know some AMAZING people. We have been blessed with some of the most wonderful nurses and doctors. We have been blessed to see all the amazing changes that go on in the medical world - things you would never know about if you weren't part of this wonderful community.

All of that to say, that a cheery "Get Well Soon" card is JUST the ticket:

To make sure my card was cheery, I chose some Wisteria Wonder, Pear Pizzazz and the Designer Series Paper from Afternoon Picnic.

This might just be my favourite image from the Ronald McDonald set because it has the heart in the stethoscope - to me, it represents my heart kids. :)

Today is the LAST day to take advantage of the 25% off sale. This stamp set isn't included in the sale, but you sure could add it to your order!

Tag! You're It! Congratulations!

I'll admit it. Summer Starfruit is NOT my favourite colour. In fact, it's my LEAST favourite colour. It's been an "In Colour" for 15 months (more or less) and it has about another 9 months to go before it officially retires *crosses fingers*. You would think that at this point it would have at least started to grow on me a little bit, but no. Not at all. Not one iota! In fact, the piece on today's card is from the ORIGINAL pack of paper I ordered when the colour first appeared in 2012. Yeah. That.

Anyway...you didn't come here today to listen to my RAMBLE on about my dislike of Summer Starfruit, you came to see a card. Here you go:

I started off with an Island Indigo base (I'm almost out - EEK!!) and added a layer of Summer Starfruit which I ran through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder. If you don't have this folder yet, you should probably order it. It's one of the most versatile one created by Stampin' UP! and you can use it to dress up just about any card.

You can go to my online store by clicking HERE to order it. Don't forget to use Hostess Code: 3CGSAVKU all this week until October 31st.

My card also features Designer Series Paper from the Soho Subway pack. It's a little "edgier" than I'm used to, but I kind of like it.

I stamped the image in Island Indigo on Very Vanilla Cardstock and cut it out using the Chalk Talk Framelits and my big shot. I also hand cut a layer of Island Indigo for a mat.

And...the reason I chose a Congratulations? Why, it's Congratulations to ME of course!! If you follow me on Facebook, you'll know that I was recently appointed LEAD for the Toronto Ronald McDonald House. I couldn't be MORE thrilled!

Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with one of the house coordinators and drop off the cards that were created at my Stampin' Extravaganza this past June. We chatted about some things that my group of volunteers and I could do and I've got BIG PLANS!!! I can always use MORE volunteers, so if you live in the Toronto area, please let me know. If you're a Stampin' UP! demonstrator and would like to help out, please contact LANA at Stampin' UP! You can email her at rmcdhouse@stampinup.com and she'll get you set up.

This is the start of something BIG!

Tag! You're It! Birthday Edition

Do you have it yet? The Ronald McDonald House Charities Set? If not, you should! Not only is it SUPER cute, but Stampin' UP! donates $3 from every set sold to Ronald McDonald houses EVERYWHERE.

Now, I don't know about you, but I think a sick child needs his/her family close by when they're in the hospital and Ronald McDonald houses help do just that. Fortunately, I've never had to use Ronald McDonald houses, but I know friends that have and I'm happy that it's available for them.

Maybe you've been blessed to NEVER have had a sick child in your life - lucky you! I have. TWO. Our family has been blessed with two cardiac kids (both were born with congenital heart disease) and we have had multiple hospital stays and multiple surgeries and procedures performed at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Fortunately, we live close enough to the hospital that it's not a hardship for our family to drive back and forth, but for many families, this isn't possible. For them, I am THRILLED that Stampin' UP! has partnered with RMHC so that they can be close to their children during some of the most difficult times they'll every experience.

Today's card features Birthday Basics Paper and an offset gatefold using Very Vanilla Cardstock. It's the first card in my series for this week and with it comes a special offer, just for you.

I know you want to help out RMHC as well as the families that use the Houses, so here's the deal:

Go to my online store by clicking HERE. Order the Tag It! set in either wood mount or clear mount and use HOSTESS CODE: 3CGSAVKU at check out. Of course, you can order other goodies too! But just be sure to order on or before October 28th, 2013 when I'll be closing the order. And don't forget!! There's a sale going on too...25% off 25 different stamp sets. You can read about that HERE.

When I receive confirmation of your order, I'll send you the tutorial with step by step instructions to create all the Tag IT! cards I'll be featuring this week. AND, one lucky person who places an order will receive a $25 shopping spree in Stampin' UP! product.

Poppies for the Crew!

It's Wednesday again (happens every week - LOL!) so that means it's Paper Crafts Crew day! You can see my card below and check out the rest of the crew HERE.

I'm taking a break from "Tag IT!" today to show you some poppies, but don't worry...Tag IT will be back tomorrow!

Today, my poppies are BLUE! Well...Coastal Cabana to be precise. I'm pretty sure Coastal Cabana Poppies don't exist, but hey, it's my stamp space and I can make ANYTHING happen! :)

My card is square, so I started off with a 10 1/2" x 5 1/4" piece of Coastal Cabana Cardstock and added a layer of Afternoon Picnic Designer Series Paper.

I stamped and cut my poppies on Whisper White Cardstock (yes, I know the "base" colour of Afternoon Picnic is Very Vanilla - OOPS!) and added them in layers (with Stampin' Dimensionals) to another layer of Coastal Cabana Cardstock.

I embellished the card with Bermuda Bay 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon and Basic Pearls.

I had a few extra poppies in circles, so I added one to the inside for the finishing touch.

As you can see from the sketch below, I took a few liberties...

Do you even HEAR the words coming out of your mouth?

When I came across this sketch the other day, I thought it would be GREAT for my Pleasant Poppies series. I was right!

The funny thing is, that this sketch is from the Clean and Simple Stamping blog and as we all know, clean and simple (while lovely) is not my thing. Especially the simple part. And so:

It might LOOK clean and simple, but it's not quite that simple. Check it out:

You can see the layers of poppies - right down to the little bud. I may be a bit crazy...just a little! :)

My image was coloured by applying markers directly to the rubber in Island Indigo and Old Olive. I used the Big Shot and Circle Framelits to cut out the image panel and hand cut the super skinny Island Indigo mat.

Don't you LOVE that Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder? I love how it can dress up a card in a flash!

The sentiment was stamped with Island Indigo Ink and then I used one of the banner Framelits from the Label Card Thinlit. This little banner is SO much fun!

With Sympathy

Today's Pleasant Poppies card was inspired by the lovely and talented Jen Mitchell. It's pretty much a CASE (Copy And Share Everything), but I did change up the colours and the sentiment.

You'll remember this post when I had some pieces of Island Indigo sitting out on my stamp space and I wanted to find a way to use them. Well...apparently I need to tidy up a bit more often, because some of that Island Indigo is STILL on my stamping space - EEK!

Just as well, because I thought it would be great to recreate Jen's card.

Thankfully, I don't *need* a sympathy card right now, but when I do, I know I'll have one ready to go. Because really...who wants to create a sympathy card when you NEED one? Are you really in the mood to create a sympathy card when you need one? I don't think anyone is.

As I mentioned, I started off with the piece of Island Indigo Cardstock left over from class (and since then, creating my husband's cards for the office). I then trimmed up my Very Vanilla Cardstock, drew a line around it with my Island Indigo marker (not free hand, though I supposed I could try that too!), added a post-it note mask and stamped the poppy image in Staz-ON.

I used my watercolour pen and ink squished into the top of my Island Indigo and Pear Pizzazz Ink pads to add colour to the image.

The image was then adhered to my piece of Island Indigo and added to the front of the card.

The sentiment (from Teeny Tiny Wishes) was stamped below the image in Island Indigo Ink.

Halloween Hello - Witchy-Poo!

I'll get you my pretties! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Whenever I picture a witch it's always the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz with her flying monkeys and her "I'll you my pretty! And your little dog too!" Having seen the movie dozens (hundreds?) of times, she's not really all that scary...more ridiculous than anything else.

Our little Halloween Hello witch is neither of those things. She's just CUTE! She's stamped in Staz-ON ink on a circle of Summer Starfruit which was sponged for a little extra dimension.

The layer of Basic Black Cardstock was stamped with Versamark ink and embossed with Clear Embossing Powder and I added the sentiment in Whisper White Craft Ink embossed with White Embossing Powder.

I want CANDY!!

Yeah...you know you sang it!!! Who doesn't want candy? :)

I just love, love, LOVE that "It's all about the candy!" stamp in this set. It's just so cute! I'm trying to figure where else I can use it. :)

For this card, I started off with a Pumpkin Pie base and added layers of Basic Black and Witches Brew Designer Series Paper. The little strip of Basic Black Cardstock hides the seam between the two different DSP's.

The candy was stamped in Staz-ON on Pumpkin Pie Cardstock and hand cut before being added to the card using Stampin' Dimensionals.

In order to stamp the sentiment in two different colours, I used my Basic Black and Pumpkin Pie markers right on the stamp.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled Halloween post...

...to bring you some POPPIES!

Don't worry...the candy will be back tomorrow, but I wanted to give you a little preview of what you'll be seeing here on the blog next week! :) Plus, this card is for this week's Retro Sketch, so it couldn't wait till next week - LOL!

I'm loving all the Designer Series Paper on my projects! Sometimes it's all too easy to just layer some cardstock and call it a day, but our Designer Series Paper is so much fun, you really should take the plunge and cut into it! For this card, I even used a DSP layer!

Today's card features Pleasant Poppies, Afternoon Picnic DSP and some Wisteria Wonder (which, in case you DIDN'T know, made it from the "In Colour" collection to the REGULAR colour families - WOOT!)

I coloured the poppies using my watercolour pens and squished ink into the lid of my ink pad. These particular poppies feature Wisteria Wonder with a touch of Perfect Plum.

I added some ribbon (retired) and button (not) to my card for a little extra pop.

It's all about the CANDY!!

It's true, right? Halloween is TOTALLY all about the candy!! The kids get excited and I hope that someone gave them Tootsie Rolls because that's the "mom tax" for taking them out. They're lucky with me...my hubby charges them Coffee Crisp bars - LOL!

Today's card is one I designed back in August, both for today's Paper Crafts Crew sketch and for the True North Swappers. I love swapping with these girls! We do a monthly theme and the card fronts I get back are ALWAYS top notch!

I started off with a base of Summer Starfruit Cardstock and then added a layer of Very Vanilla. My original design had a full piece of the Witches Brew Designer Series Paper, but I changed my mind and I'm glad I did!

I used my slaves children to cut out the squares using the Square Framelit Dies and the Big Shot. I actually stamped AFTER they were cut out...I was thinking of the children really...it would have taken them FOREVER to line up the images.

The last image on the right (wrapped candy), was fussy cut and put up on Stampin' Dimensionals.

I stamped my Happy Halloween sentiment using the direct to rubber technique (markers on the rubber instead of colouring the image after it's stamped - which would be impossible with this one since it's a solid image) with my Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive markers.

The finishing touch? A Summer Starfruit Ribbon of course! It's STILL not a colour I love, but I do like the way this card turned out.

Halloween Hello - Gone Batty!

From skulls to BATS!!

This little bat isn't scary at all! No teeth, so he can't bite you - LOL! He's one of my favourite images in this set because he's so darn cute! :)

I love the piercing detail on this card and really should use my paper piercing pack more often! I used it on this card last week and just LOVED the results! The piercing template above is one that in the Essentials Paper Piercing Pack. It has lots of lines, circles and basic shapes. Definitely a "must have" in your arsenal of fun toys tools.

The sentiment I used is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and is stamped in Staz-ON ink. If you don't have the Teeny Tiny Wishes set, it's another "must have" - it has a sentiment for EVERYTHING!

Halloween Hello - Skull

Have you seen this adorable stamp set in the Holiday Catalogue?

I know a lot of people go straight for the Christmas collections, but if Halloween is your thing, there's some goodies for you in the Occasions Catalogue too!

This week you'll get to see a collection of Halloween Hello cards. Maybe this is the year you decide to send Halloween cards? Maybe your little ones would like to wake up to a special surprise on Halloween morning? Whatever you decide to do this year, I hope you find some inspiration!

Skulls can be scary, but not this little guy! Way to cute to be scary!

I started off with a Very Vanilla Base and added a layer of Basic Black Cardstock. My Pumpkin Pie layer was stamped with images from the Gorgeous Grunge set being run through the Big Shot using the Chevron Folder.

I used a teeny strip of Summer Starfruit (STILL don't like that colour - even after almost 1 1/2 years!) and added three tiny silver brads as embellishment.

The skull was stamped on Very Vanilla Cardstock and hand cut before being adhered to the DSP/Cardstock panel. Halloween Hello was stamped in Staz-ON ink directly onto the Witches Brew Designer Series Paper.

A Burst of Coffee!

I've been meaning to try the Sunburst technique for a little while, but it always seemed so intimidating! It's a whole lot easier than it looks once you get the hang of it though and I just LOVE the way this one turned out!

I used the Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper for this one again and sponged all the edges with Soft Suede Ink before arranging them in the sunburst pattern in the top part of the card front.

I added the sunburst to a piece of Crumb Cake Cardstock onto which I'd stamped the sentiment. Then I added a piece of Soft Suede Ribbon and wrapped it around the card front to hide the seam.

I stamped and cut out two sets of coffee cups and even added WHITE lids this time - just like Starbucks. :) I think this would be the PERFECT card to give to a friend along with a gift card to your favourite coffee shop.

I had to finish the inside too...with...what else? COFFEE STAINS!

Here's the sketch:

And here's what I came up with:

Do you need your coffee before you can function in the morning? Me? I'm more of a tea girl, but caffeine is caffeine, right? Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a cup of coffee (usually once or twice a day), but if I don't have my tea first thing in the morning, it's going to be a BAD DAY! My husband knows this and is a very smart man. Most days, I get tea in bed. Spoiled? Nope! I'm just loved.

Today's card comes courtesy of SplitCoast Stampers where yesterday was sketch day! It was a pretty simple sketch, but I couldn't just make a simple card (as if you didn't know THAT).

So, I started off with my Perfect Blend Set again (yes, it's still out and no, I'm not getting tired of using it yet) and decided on some Coastal Cabana and Afternoon Picnic Designer Series paper to change things up a bit.

Lots of layers (of course) and I even had to double up on the Stampin' Dimensionals to get my sentiment up to the right height. :)

And of course, the card is not complete till the inside is done too:

Gimme COFFEE!!!

Happy Wednesday! It's Paper Craft Crew Sketch Challenge Day! My card is below and you can check out what the rest of the crew has been up to by clicking HERE.

As you can tell from yesterday's post, I'm on a bit of a coffee bend...hope you don't mind, because I've got MORE to come! :)

Obviously, I like this cup in layers and I can't seem to create it with less than three! I just really like the dimension that it adds to the card.

I'm using the Designer Series Paper from Venetian Romance as well as some Crisp Cantaloupe again...changing things up with a Crumb Cake base.

A Soft Suede Bow adds a pretty touch.

And here's the full card:

I made a happy discovery when I paired an oval from the Oval Framelit Set and a deco label from the Deco Label Framelit Set. They go well together, don't you think? I also had some fun with the sponges and Crisp Cantaloupe Ink.

Here's the sketch if you'd like to try your hand at it:

Trust the Paper - a MOJO Monday Sketch

Have you ever looked a colour combination and thought "What the heck were they thinking?"

Every once in a while, it happens to me. You would think I would have learned by now...I mean, Stampin' UP! is celebrating their 25th anniversary this year. It would seem they might know just a thing or two about colour.

And yet, when I decided to stamp a card for the MOJO Monday sketch (you're shocked and amazed, I know), I questioned the colour. Island Indigo with Crisp Cantaloupe? They're not even in the same colour family! But, there they were, happily co-existing on a sheet of Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper.

I had a few strips of Island Indigo Cardstock on my work space from some cards we made at class over the weekend, so I was looking to use some of that rather than have to put it away - LOL! That's where the idea for the Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper came in, because I knew it had some Island Indigo in it. I was trying to figure out what else to do so I looked up the paper in the 2013-2014 Catalogue and that's when I saw the Crisp Cantaloupe. I thought it was weird, but decided to give it a try. And that's where the "trust the paper" came in. Seriously. Stampin' UP! has been doing this for 25 years, so you know that if they put it together in the same pack of Designer Series Paper, it's going to work.

And of course, it did!!

Check out the layers on that coffee cup!! Yes, they're all fussy cut. If I'm going to make a comeback to the blogging world, I may as well do it right! I stamped the cup twice and then the lid once. I cut them all out and stacked them up on Stampin' Dimensionals. Then I stamped the cup again on some Designer Series Paper to make the little "sleeve".

What do you think?
