Tag! You're IT! I dig you
With the little heart right on the shovel, this image would be PERFECT for Valentine's Day!
I started off with a base of Baked Brown Sugar and used the same colours that I had out when I created this card because I already had everything out on the table and all I had to do was switch stamp sets! :)
For Valentine's Day, you could do it up in Blushing Bride and Primrose Petals or maybe Pink Pirouette and Rose Red. You could stick with a blue colour theme for the boys in your child's class too if you like. Whatever your little heart desires!
To get all the different colours on the stamp, I used markers and applied them directly to the rubber image and then stamped onto a piece of Whisper White Cardstock.
After running the image through the Big Shot, I added some ribbon for a final touch.

Tag! You're It! Get Well Soon...
When I visited Ronald McDonald House last week, I learned that two of the families that stay there have been there for OVER A YEAR. Can you imagine? A YEAR? A year of your life spent worrying about your child? A year of your life living away from home? A year of your life where you just don't know what tomorrow will hold?
As I've mentioned, our family was blessed with two cardiac kids. Yes, I know it sounds weird to say we were "blessed" with two sick children, but if you don't look at is as a blessing, you spend your time being unhappy/sad/depressed. We have been blessed with getting to know some AMAZING people. We have been blessed with some of the most wonderful nurses and doctors. We have been blessed to see all the amazing changes that go on in the medical world - things you would never know about if you weren't part of this wonderful community.
All of that to say, that a cheery "Get Well Soon" card is JUST the ticket:
To make sure my card was cheery, I chose some Wisteria Wonder, Pear Pizzazz and the Designer Series Paper from Afternoon Picnic.
This might just be my favourite image from the Ronald McDonald set because it has the heart in the stethoscope - to me, it represents my heart kids. :)

Tag! You're It! Congratulations!
I'll admit it. Summer Starfruit is NOT my favourite colour. In fact, it's my LEAST favourite colour. It's been an "In Colour" for 15 months (more or less) and it has about another 9 months to go before it officially retires *crosses fingers*. You would think that at this point it would have at least started to grow on me a little bit, but no. Not at all. Not one iota! In fact, the piece on today's card is from the ORIGINAL pack of paper I ordered when the colour first appeared in 2012. Yeah. That.
Anyway...you didn't come here today to listen to my RAMBLE on about my dislike of Summer Starfruit, you came to see a card. Here you go:
I started off with an Island Indigo base (I'm almost out - EEK!!) and added a layer of Summer Starfruit which I ran through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder. If you don't have this folder yet, you should probably order it. It's one of the most versatile one created by Stampin' UP! and you can use it to dress up just about any card.
You can go to my online store by clicking HERE to order it. Don't forget to use Hostess Code: 3CGSAVKU all this week until October 31st.
My card also features Designer Series Paper from the Soho Subway pack. It's a little "edgier" than I'm used to, but I kind of like it.
I stamped the image in Island Indigo on Very Vanilla Cardstock and cut it out using the Chalk Talk Framelits and my big shot. I also hand cut a layer of Island Indigo for a mat.
And...the reason I chose a Congratulations? Why, it's Congratulations to ME of course!! If you follow me on Facebook, you'll know that I was recently appointed LEAD for the Toronto Ronald McDonald House. I couldn't be MORE thrilled!
Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with one of the house coordinators and drop off the cards that were created at my Stampin' Extravaganza this past June. We chatted about some things that my group of volunteers and I could do and I've got BIG PLANS!!! I can always use MORE volunteers, so if you live in the Toronto area, please let me know. If you're a Stampin' UP! demonstrator and would like to help out, please contact LANA at Stampin' UP! You can email her at rmcdhouse@stampinup.com and she'll get you set up.
This is the start of something BIG!

Do you even HEAR the words coming out of your mouth?
The funny thing is, that this sketch is from the Clean and Simple Stamping blog and as we all know, clean and simple (while lovely) is not my thing. Especially the simple part. And so:
It might LOOK clean and simple, but it's not quite that simple. Check it out:
You can see the layers of poppies - right down to the little bud. I may be a bit crazy...just a little! :)
My image was coloured by applying markers directly to the rubber in Island Indigo and Old Olive. I used the Big Shot and Circle Framelits to cut out the image panel and hand cut the super skinny Island Indigo mat.
The sentiment was stamped with Island Indigo Ink and then I used one of the banner Framelits from the Label Card Thinlit. This little banner is SO much fun!

With Sympathy
You'll remember this post when I had some pieces of Island Indigo sitting out on my stamp space and I wanted to find a way to use them. Well...apparently I need to tidy up a bit more often, because some of that Island Indigo is STILL on my stamping space - EEK!
Just as well, because I thought it would be great to recreate Jen's card.
Thankfully, I don't *need* a sympathy card right now, but when I do, I know I'll have one ready to go. Because really...who wants to create a sympathy card when you NEED one? Are you really in the mood to create a sympathy card when you need one? I don't think anyone is.
As I mentioned, I started off with the piece of Island Indigo Cardstock left over from class (and since then, creating my husband's cards for the office). I then trimmed up my Very Vanilla Cardstock, drew a line around it with my Island Indigo marker (not free hand, though I supposed I could try that too!), added a post-it note mask and stamped the poppy image in Staz-ON.
I used my watercolour pen and ink squished into the top of my Island Indigo and Pear Pizzazz Ink pads to add colour to the image.
The image was then adhered to my piece of Island Indigo and added to the front of the card.
The sentiment (from Teeny Tiny Wishes) was stamped below the image in Island Indigo Ink.

I want CANDY!!
The candy was stamped in Staz-ON on Pumpkin Pie Cardstock and hand cut before being added to the card using Stampin' Dimensionals.
In order to stamp the sentiment in two different colours, I used my Basic Black and Pumpkin Pie markers right on the stamp.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled Halloween post...
...to bring you some POPPIES!
Don't worry...the candy will be back tomorrow, but I wanted to give you a little preview of what you'll be seeing here on the blog next week! :) Plus, this card is for this week's Retro Sketch, so it couldn't wait till next week - LOL!
I'm loving all the Designer Series Paper on my projects! Sometimes it's all too easy to just layer some cardstock and call it a day, but our Designer Series Paper is so much fun, you really should take the plunge and cut into it! For this card, I even used a DSP layer!
Today's card features Pleasant Poppies, Afternoon Picnic DSP and some Wisteria Wonder (which, in case you DIDN'T know, made it from the "In Colour" collection to the REGULAR colour families - WOOT!)
I coloured the poppies using my watercolour pens and squished ink into the lid of my ink pad. These particular poppies feature Wisteria Wonder with a touch of Perfect Plum.
I added some ribbon (retired) and button (not) to my card for a little extra pop.

It's all about the CANDY!!
Today's card is one I designed back in August, both for today's Paper Crafts Crew sketch and for the True North Swappers. I love swapping with these girls! We do a monthly theme and the card fronts I get back are ALWAYS top notch!
I started off with a base of Summer Starfruit Cardstock and then added a layer of Very Vanilla. My original design had a full piece of the Witches Brew Designer Series Paper, but I changed my mind and I'm glad I did!
I used my
The last image on the right (wrapped candy), was fussy cut and put up on Stampin' Dimensionals.
I stamped my Happy Halloween sentiment using the direct to rubber technique (markers on the rubber instead of colouring the image after it's stamped - which would be impossible with this one since it's a solid image) with my Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive markers.
The finishing touch? A Summer Starfruit Ribbon of course! It's STILL not a colour I love, but I do like the way this card turned out.

Halloween Hello - Skull
I know a lot of people go straight for the Christmas collections, but if Halloween is your thing, there's some goodies for you in the Occasions Catalogue too!
This week you'll get to see a collection of Halloween Hello cards. Maybe this is the year you decide to send Halloween cards? Maybe your little ones would like to wake up to a special surprise on Halloween morning? Whatever you decide to do this year, I hope you find some inspiration!
I started off with a Very Vanilla Base and added a layer of Basic Black Cardstock. My Pumpkin Pie layer was stamped with images from the Gorgeous Grunge set being run through the Big Shot using the Chevron Folder.
I used a teeny strip of Summer Starfruit (STILL don't like that colour - even after almost 1 1/2 years!) and added three tiny silver brads as embellishment.
The skull was stamped on Very Vanilla Cardstock and hand cut before being adhered to the DSP/Cardstock panel. Halloween Hello was stamped in Staz-ON ink directly onto the Witches Brew Designer Series Paper.

Going Retro!
I came across the Retro Sketch while I had my Perfect Blend set out, so I thought I'd give it a shot!
Here's the sketch:
And here's what I came up with:
I kind of like the look of "washi tape" that I created with strips of (you guessed it!) Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper! :)
For this cup, I managed to keep it to just TWO layers - LOL!

So, I started off with my Perfect Blend Set again (yes, it's still out and no, I'm not getting tired of using it yet) and decided on some Coastal Cabana and Afternoon Picnic Designer Series paper to change things up a bit.
Lots of layers (of course) and I even had to double up on the Stampin' Dimensionals to get my sentiment up to the right height. :)
And of course, the card is not complete till the inside is done too:

Gimme COFFEE!!!
I made a happy discovery when I paired an oval from the Oval Framelit Set and a deco label from the Deco Label Framelit Set. They go well together, don't you think? I also had some fun with the sponges and Crisp Cantaloupe Ink.

Trust the Paper - a MOJO Monday Sketch
Have you ever looked a colour combination and thought "What the heck were they thinking?"
Every once in a while, it happens to me. You would think I would have learned by now...I mean, Stampin' UP! is celebrating their 25th anniversary this year. It would seem they might know just a thing or two about colour.
And yet, when I decided to stamp a card for the MOJO Monday sketch (you're shocked and amazed, I know), I questioned the colour. Island Indigo with Crisp Cantaloupe? They're not even in the same colour family! But, there they were, happily co-existing on a sheet of Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper.
I had a few strips of Island Indigo Cardstock on my work space from some cards we made at class over the weekend, so I was looking to use some of that rather than have to put it away - LOL! That's where the idea for the Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper came in, because I knew it had some Island Indigo in it. I was trying to figure out what else to do so I looked up the paper in the 2013-2014 Catalogue and that's when I saw the Crisp Cantaloupe. I thought it was weird, but decided to give it a try. And that's where the "trust the paper" came in. Seriously. Stampin' UP! has been doing this for 25 years, so you know that if they put it together in the same pack of Designer Series Paper, it's going to work.
And of course, it did!!
