Simple Saturday - Back to Basics

Good morning friends! Hope you all had a GREAT week.

For today's post, I thought I'd go back to basics...when all that was available were stamps and ink. To do that, I made my own Designer Series Paper using the OSW (One Sheet Wonder) technique. The thing I just love about this technique is that if you have the ink to match the paper your project will always look great! And you never have to worry about having the DSP that will look "just right" with your project. Not that I want you to STOP buying DSP - let's not get crazy here - LOL!

The way to make an OSW is to start off with your biggest stamp and your lightest colour...at least that's what I do! The general idea is to use 3 or 4 stamps (I usually choose ones from the same set) and 3 coordinating colours and just get to work. Your sheet of paper (in this case Whisper White 8 1/2 X 11) must be full.

When you're done, you cut the sheet into several pieces (following a template or freehand) and use those pieces on your cards.

For today's card, I just cut a piece of my OSW to 3 7/8" X 5 1/8". I ended up covering the bottom half of it with a strip of Marina Mist, so I probably could have cut the piece of OSW a bit smaller. Oh well! Live and Learn - LOL!

So, after cutting my OSW, I adhered it to a piece of Basic Black cut to 4 X 5 1/4". I then added a piece of Marina Mist to the bottom half of the card. My one little "cheat" (not a basic) was the black ribbon I used to hide the seam between the two pieces.

My stamped image is the "Extreme Guitar" stamped on Whisper White and matted on Basic Black and Pacific Point. It's adhered to the front of the card using Stampin' Dimensionals. The last little touch was the sentiment stamped in Pacific Point on Whisper White and matted on a piece of 1 3/4" Pacific Point.

What do you think?

STAMPS: Extreme Guitar; and that set I can't name...*sigh*
INKS: Marina Mist, Pacific Point, Night of Navy, Basic Black
PAPERS: Whisper White, Marina Mist, Pacific Point, Basic Black
ACCESSORIES: Stampin' Dimensionals, Ribbon, Punches

Simple Saturday Note of Thanks

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to join Cindy in the chat room over at SUDSOL. If you're a demonstrator, you really should try SUDSOL out! There's a free two-week trial button over there on the left hand side of my blog. Give it a shot, you won't regret it!

When Cindy posted the sketch for the challenge, I knew it would be PERFECT for my simple Saturday card. I'm sure you'll agree!

I started off with a Pear Pizzazz base and then added a 4 X 5 1/4" piece of Sunny Garden DSP. I made three panels using Peach Parfait and a different sheet from the Sunny Garden DSP pack. My sentiment was stamped on Whisper White and then matted on a piece of Peach Parfait. The finishing touch were the darling little Basic Rhinestones.

What do you think?

STAMPS: Kind Thanks
INK: Peach Parfait
PAPERS: Whisper White, Peach Parfait and Pear Pizzazz Cardstock; Sunny Garden DSP
ACCESSORIES: Stampin' Dimensionals, Basic Rhinestones

Simple Saturday Anniversary

Last Saturday, my grand aunt and grand uncle celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Now, I could spend this entire post enlightening you as to why they're grand and not great, but this is a stamping blog - LOL! Suffice to say that the term "grand" uncle and aunt is correct in this case.

I clearly wasn't paying attention to the calendar and missed sending them a card to arrive before their actual anniversary. So, I whipped one up real quick and popped it in the mail. Hopefully, it won't take too long to get to Nova Scotia.

My Caroline ROCKS because she gave me the stamp set that allowed me to make the card:

FAST AND FABULOUS!!! This is a level 2 Hostess Set and it really is Fast and Fabulous! It's a two step stamping set that allows you to create FABULOUS cards for any occasion and you can create them FAST!

I also used a sentiment from the Level 3 Hostess Set called Occasional Quotes on the front of the card and it was done...just like that!

What do you think?

STAMPS: Fast and Fabulous (Level 2 Hostess Set) and Occasional Quotes (Level 3 Hostess Set)
INK: Melon Mambo, Regal Rose, Pretty in Pink
PAPERS: Whisper White and Melon Mambo Cardstock
ACCESSORIES: Sponges

Simple Saturday Thank You

One of my favourite relaxing things to do is check out the SUO gallery on SplitCoast Stampers. SUO stands for Stampin' UP! Only and that means all the products used to create the card are available through Stampin' UP!

Last week, I was doing just that and came across this card by Beedubya. I immediately stopped what I was doing, set the computer aside and got to work CASEing it - just had to!

Here's my version:
Everything except the Naturals White Cardstock is retired and no longer available. I don't normally use retired product to showcase cards on my blog, but these papers and stamped image were just PERFECT for the card. To make sure there was enough room for the library clip, I had to stack my Stampin' Dimensionals two high. This is DEFINITELY a card that will have to be hand delivered!

What do you think?

STAMPS: Happy Moments (a Sale-a-Bration set)
INK: Old Olive
PAPERS: Taken with Teal (retired) and Naturals White Cardstock; DSP from Sweet Pea Paper Pack (retired)
ACCESSORIES: Black Marker and 1/2" library clip (you can still get the mini clips, item # 109857)
